Book club ("Buchclub")

Accompanying the "Fundamentals of Biology IA" course, Prof. Aebi und Prof. Hafen offer a book discussion club for literature interested students. The chosen book follows the course content, but in addition includes new developments in biology or controversial subjects. The students read selected chapters in self-study and meet with fellow students and the professors for joint activities and discussions.

In the HS2017, the selected book was external page "The Gene – An Intimate History" by Pulitzer Prize winner external page Siddharta Mukherjee. In 2018, the students read external page "She Has Her Mother's Laugh" by the popular science book author and external page column writer of the New York Times external page Carl Zimmer. As a highlight, Carl Zimmer visited the ETH to personally present his book and to join the last reading club for discussions with the students.
