Group work

About the course

The lecture 'Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology' is a core lecture in the bachelor curricula of Health Sciences and Technology and Human Medicine. It is taught during the first semester for 5 hours weekly and attended by approximately 300 students.

Implementation of group work

At the beginning of the semester students are divided into groups of 4-5 students. Teaching assisstants (TAs) are then assigned to these groups (five groups per assisstant) for the whole semester. Throughout the semester the students complete several projects as a group. They work on the task, gather feedback the teaching assisstant, discuss and improve their output together and hand in a final versions of each assignment which is graded by the TA.

The TA is not only the evaluator of student's work but also functions as a go-to person for questions about the course content and management, general questions about the curriculum and following study years.

For their participation in course activities, students can gather bonus points counting for their exam at the end of the semester.
